I’ve been watching NBC’s Fashion Star. As a fan of reality TV shows that are fashion competitions, I do enjoy the twist in this one. It’s great that the designers get mentored by Jessica Simpson, John Varvatos, and Nicole Richie; then they face the buyers from Saks Fifth Avenue, Macy’s, and H&M stores. The clothes that are bought by the buyers go on sale the same night online and are in the stores the next day.
It’s a win for the stores, apparently a few of the designs have sold out, and for the designers, having their clothes sold in national stores. I like hearing the valuable feedback from the mentors (9 times out of 10 their advice is dead on), and then the buyers offer their take as to why they did or did not buy designs. I am getting an education in the business of fashion. I get to see how the designers take advice, their attitudes towards the mentors and buyers, their designs, and how the stores interpret their designs for sale.
I recommend this show for anyone who likes fashion, especially those who want to be fashion designers to get a sense of what the buyers are looking for. I can’t wait for the next show! I like Elle Macpherson as the hostess. Do you watch Fashion Star? If yes, what do you think about it? Love it or hate it?
