My 4.75 star review

I found this to be an exciting book 2 with some crazy twists! Daniel is not the alpha jerk I thought he was becoming at the end of Shards of Glass. And Janie shows that she can hold her own.

I was thrilled with how the author switched some storylines up, so that I was caught off-guard. just when I thought that I knew where things were going, they changed direction.

I felt that it was a bit rushed near the end, and I would have liked a bit more romance scenes with Daniel and Janie. However, the scenes that they did have sizzled. And the cliffhanger ending was a shocker. SO GOOD!

I am eagerly awaiting the final book, Hearts of Glass. I am rooting for Daniel and Janie to get their HEA (happily ever after).

“The word is that you have quite a reputation, Daniel Glass. And to be honest with you, I’m not that interested in shooting this movie with someone who could be riddled with sexually transmitted diseases.”

There, I said it.
He burst out laughing again.

I’m serious, Daniel. What you do is your business, but if I’m to be pretty much naked, with you all over me, I want to know you’re as clean as a whistle.”

He tried to put on a serious face. “I haven’t had sex with anyone since my wife died,” he said, still chuckling to himself.

I loved how Janie called him out. And then when he says he hasn’t had sex … ?! Janie and Daniel won my respect. And the story keeps getting better.

Note: I was a beta reader. This is my honest review. I enjoyed so much that I bought the ebook.

My 4.5 star review

4.5 stars! I was wonderfully surprised with Shards of Glass, extended from the terrific Glass novella. I got caught up with a tease in the story that ends with “His sentence cuts through me like splintering shards of glass.” Since the hero’s name is Daniel Glass, the play on words using glass works really well.

Daniel is out of Janie’s reach because of Natasha Jurgen. Then there is an unexpected happening that changes everything for Janie, and then she meets Star Davis, a movie actress, and accepts a role in a movie. She ends up in Los Angeles after leaving New York City, where she runs into Daniel again unexpectedly.

Janie’s insecurities and talent make her a heroine that I could identify with and root for. Star and Janie became friends, and I appreciate a romance novel that offers female bonding as well as ‘going after the hot guy’. I really enjoyed having Star in this story. And then there is the scene with Hope, Star’s precocious daughter, that was laugh out loud funny and smart.

By the way: Daniel is a stage director and Janie is an actress, a similarity to The Star Trilogy by the author with Jake, a movie director, and Star, an actress. However outside of that, this a very different story.

I didn’t like that there was a repeat of a sequence that was terrific and caught me off guard the first time, but felt predictable the second time the author wrote a similar scene. Also, the shift in Daniel’s personality near the end didn’t impress me. I’m hoping for more interaction with Daniel and Janie in book 2.

This ends in a cliffhanger. I’m curious as to where the author will take the story next. I hope that is somewhere that I haven’t been before. I have enjoyed her Pearl series (Alexandre Chevalier <3). I’m looking forward to Broken Glass, book 2.

NOTE: I received an ARC from the author. This is my honest review.
